Testing 4K and 1080P editing with the Quad-Core i5 MacBook Air! The first 500 people who click the link in the description will get 2 free months of Skillsha. My Macbook is mid 2015 model with the video all on an SSD drive and 8GB ram. I made sure it had plenty of memory and CPU available. After weeks of wasting my time with iMovie, I finally started from scratch on my 2011 Windows PC with non SSD hard drive, using the old Windows Movie Maker software. MacBook Air packs heavy-duty performance into just 2.8 pounds. The available quad-core Intel Core i7 processor delivers up to 2x faster CPU performance 1 and up to 80 percent faster graphics performance, 4 to help you power through everything from browsing the web to playing games to editing video.
This article explains how you can fix iMovie exporting problems. You can easily export your videos or movies so that you can use and share your project outside of iMovie. iMovie offers a lot of sharing options:
- Email,
- YouTube,
- Vimeo,
- File,
- FaceBook.
Sometimes, however, iMovie may not work properly. More specifically you might not be able to share your videos from iMovie. You may get an error when trying to export videos from iMovie. For example, you may get the following error message:
Exporting “macreports” has failed. The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain Error -1.)

How To Record Video On Imovie Macbook Air
If you are still having issues, you may want to contact Apple.
I've got roughly the same spec laptop as you have mentioned (256GB SSD). I've got an i5 instead of an i7. One slight issue was as I was exporting the fans came on and it's the first time I ever heard that on the Air. And it was LOUD, frighteningly loud. My recommendation is once everything's imported do everything to edit and playback and tweak. When it comes time to Share the video out, make sure you've got the power plugged in (if the fans are running loud the CPU is running full tilt too). And you may want to prop up the base of the laptop just to keep some of that metal on the bottom exposed to the air and not sitting against the top of the desk. More air will help the Air cool itself when you're doing the heavy lifting of sharing the final video out.
